Ok, so I'm not huge into watching sports. I love to play everything (although my current back issues limit that somewhat), but watching... sure I can get into a game at times, but I've never been much of a spectator. Also I have a wife and four daughters...and somehow none of them ever really caught the sporting bug.
Recently I was talking to a buddy of mine though, and we started talking about fantasy football. I've read about it, tried to figure it out once back in about 1998, but never really got into it. Well Chris made it sound kinda fun, so I thought I'd give it a try.
Trying something new, its sports, its maybe relaxing...and hopefully not stressfull...hey I should write about this (I thought to myself). So here I am, sharing my bumbling into world of NFL Fantasy Football. Saw a commercial for it today that said to check it out on http://www.nfl.com/fantasyfootball. So I head over there. I'm immediately given three options,
- Create a League
- Join a League
- Activate a League
Well...being new to the entire world of this...I probably shouldn't create a leauge. And I certainly can't activate a league...so I guess I'm opting to join one. I click join, and am presented with a list of "NFL-Managed" leagues. I have no idea what that means... but lets look through the list here... Well, they all look the same...I pick one that says it has some slots open...and then I have to signup.
I decide to click that G+ button up there, and import my info from here. Favorite team...well, I haven't really had a favorite team since about Jr. High. 49ers were good... I always liked the Bears... kinda liked the Bengals. I remember hating the Oilers...what kind of dumb name is that?! I guess I'm going to go with The Bears ("Dit-KA", "Da-Bears", is sounding off in my head...yes I'm that old!). And for now I'll let them email me, I can always unsubscribe if they get obnoxious. I click register...and apparently I took to long, the league is full...good thing I didn't have my heart set on league 10567894 or whatever it was. Jumping back to pick a league I notice this time that some are listed as "Standard" format, and others as "Auction" format...hmm, better go with standard, seems safer for a newb.
And finally, drumroll.....I'm in a league...and then I have errors. My team name, time zone and league ID are wrong? Hmm. Not sure what that was about, but I find my league! And now I can edit my "pre-draft" stuff. Well, ok...I guess lets pick some people to try and get. And I guess I'm done. I don't seem to be able to pick individuals at this point, but I changed up my preferences in which order to draft team members...and now I guess I wait for the pick?
