While an exciting announcement, my first thought was "Harry Potter isn't for adults?". I know that what she means is that she won't be writing it for children... and possibly it won't even be kid friendly, but that was still my first thought. That was pretty much all the meat to the announcement. Other information like subject matter, title, release date, et cetera will be coming out later this year. So while it is an exciting announcement, it also almost feels like a rip off. Sure I suppose that its nice to hear that she is going to be writing again, I can't even imagine trying to fill the shoes of writing an epic saga like Harry Potter, and after spending more then a decade writing it, I'm sure taking a break was welcome. But writers write, and it is nice to see that she couldn't stay away.
J.K. Rowling released a brief statement:
“Although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series, which has been published so brilliantly by Bloomsbury and my other publishers around the world. The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry's success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher. I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life."
I'm definately curious to see what she considers to be "very different" from the Potter world. Will it even be fantasy? In one very different way, they announced that when released it will be available in both paper and digital formats. Will you be standing in line, or waiting for the update to your e-reader? I think it would be fun to have a midnight release party for an e-reader crowd...lots of people sitting in a bookstore, or cafe...or even just crowded into someone's living room...everyone starts getting the download, a loud cheer...and then reading...and the sound of little clicks as the pages turn.
