You Read Too?

Of course I read, its one of the premier forms of escapism! Real world sucks, escape into one someone else created.

Its not always easy to find time to read, but if you love to read, then somehow you manage. I read during commercials (although sometimes with those Hulu commercials, by the time I've grabbed my book (kindle, kindle fire, phone, whatever), the commercial is over. I've read books while waiting in a theater for the movie to start. Doctor's offices can be great for a couple of hours of reading...I was even reading yesterday while standing in line at the bank! I often even grab my kindle when I'm planning to nuke some lunch...there's no way I'm going to just stand around for those 4-8minutes!

I used to read all the time...back in the "old" days. Before there was four kids...internet...had to keep one of those J O B things. Those good old long lazy days, with little to do. Reading an entire trilogy in four days. Of course sometimes a book can still grab a hold of you, and threaten to make the rest of your life suffer because you can't put it down. It didn't take very many days to devour the Hunger Games.

I'll read most anything, but I mostly prefer to read fantasy novels. David Eddings, Terry Brooks, Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind...to name a few of my favorite authors. But I love a good book anywhere I can find it. Tom Clancy, Grisham, Ludlum. I don't tend to read biographies/non-fiction...I'm trying to escape after all, but occasionally I'll find one about somebody that piques my curiosity. I really enjoyed Tim Allen's Don't Stand Too Close to a Naked Man. I'll sometimes enjoy a good cook book, and I sometimes enjoy that "personal enrichment" type stuff. Things about management style, escaping the cubicle, thinking more positive. I even like a good romance novel now and then.

So I'm pretty eclectic when it comes to reading. For example, I most recently finished The Black Prism (Brent Weeks), and currently reading Lead with LUV: A Different Way to Create Real Success (Ken Blanchard & Colleen Barrett), and at the same time reading Faith of the Fallen (Sword of Truth, Book 6) (Terry Goodkind).

I also like to collect the "current freebies" at Amazon for the kindle! A lot of their free books seem meh, but sometimes they have some gems...and they sometimes like to do things like give away the first book in a series. If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to post a link to a freebie now and then.

What do you like to read? What's your favorite book so far this year?
